Speed Camera Locations
Speed cameras are one of the Government's Road Safety Policy initiatives, designed to catch people who are breaking the posted speed limit at particular locations. Unfortunately, the public perception is that these cameras are not always located at accident blackspots, but are positioned where speed limits have been recently reduced or where the limit is lower than one would expect for certain roads. This can lead to drivers getting caught while innocently driving within what they perceive the limit to be or what seems safe for the road and driving conditions in question.
The solution to this problem was the birth of the speed camera detector. Using various technologies, these are designed to give you an advanced warning of the location of a speed camera or speed trap on the road ahead, thus giving you time to double check your own speed and the limit for that stretch of road.
As speed cameras are - according to theory - only located at accident blackspots, a camera detector gives you the added benefit of an advanced warning to slow down and take care. This is a very useful in car device as there is likely to be a dangerous stretch of road ahead where serious accidents and even fatalities have occurred in the past.
