What is GPS? (Global Positioning System)
Satellite Navigation systems are THE modern travelling companion; a digital co-pilot. By using a set of satellites circling the globe they can calculate your location on the planet. This is known as the Global Positioning System or GPS for short. You tell them where you want to go and they will do the map reading for you, always knowing where you are on the map.
Being digital they can provide you with street level data not generally available on the average map and fit into your pocket complete maps for the UK and Europe which would completely fill you boot in the typical road atlas paperbound form.
All they require is site of the sky above for satellite reception, usually via an inbuilt antenna, and a power source, namely the 12v cigar lighter socket, although many also come with inbuilt battery power.
