FAQ’s

Q1Can I fit them myself?

Yes you can. The majority of our customers fit the parking sensors themselves with no trouble. The wiring is very simple, just requiring you to connect two wires. The power wire connects to the cable which powers the reversing light, so when you put the car into reverse and the rear reverse light comes on it will also switch on your parking sensors. The second wire just needs to be connected to the chassis of the vehicle to earth the system. If you are worried about drilling holes in your bumper then we have adhesive systems too.

Q2Can you give me the details of someone who can fit these for me?

All our systems come with the details of some nationwide installation companies who can fit these for you should you decide you do not want to tackle the job yourself. They will come out to you at home or work and it will probably take about two hours to do. Your local crash/body repair shop will also be experts when it comes to bumpers as repairing or replacing parking sensor systems on cars that have been rear-ended in accidents is everyday work for them.

Q3Can the ultrasonic sensors match the colour of my car?

Yes they can, but with a couple of conditions. You need to use spray paint which will dispense a thin and even coating. A pot of thick touch-up paint will prevent the sensors from working. Also, do not use metallic paint, as the small metal flakes in the paint will reflect the sound waves and give false readings. Acrylic paint is best.

Q4Will they fit my car?

Although we cannot speak for every make and model, all manufacturers now fit parking sensors to some of their cars. Modern cars are all fitted with bumpers that have crumple zones and therefore room to locate sensors within the bumper. A quick look underneath your car bumper should confirm this. Externally mounted adhesive sensors are compatible with all cars.

Q5Which system do you recommend?

Trading Direct only sell good quality systems that offer a range of fitting solutions to cater for various specific requirements. We suggest you see the comparison chart to find out which system best meets your requirements.

Q6Will the tow bar or spare tyre get in the way?

If you are looking at fitting ultrasonic sensors, mounting them close to an obstacle on the rear of your car this could reflect the sound waves and give you false alerts. We recommend you fit the sensor away from these obstacles or go for an electromagnetic system which will ignore them.

Q7Can I fit any of the sensors to the front of my car?

You can fit ultrasonic sensors to the front of your car. You will need to wire them via a switch on your dashboard so that you can turn them on manually when parking rather than every time you pull up behind cars in traffic.

Q8Are chrome metal bumpers a problem?

Although they will certainly prove more of an effort if you're planning to drill the sensors into the bumper, there should be no problems with them working. Electromagnetic sensor strips, however, cannot be touching any metal.

Q9Can I buy replacement parts?

Yes. We offer replacement parts of all our current models and have stocks for some previous models, should you require them, due to a car accident or failure outside of warranty.

Q10Will the cables be long enough for my vehicle?

Information on the length of cabling is given on the systems we sell. You generally get 2.5m of cabling which goes from the sensors to the brain box. As the brain box is mounted near the rear light cluster this should be plenty of cabling.
