FAQ’s
Q1Which are the easiest car alarms to fit?
This would be the basic alarms, the Microscan Compact 1000 and Compact 2000 alarms. These just require one connection to a 12v power supply and one connection to the vehicle chassis for earthing. You can also connect a third cable to an interior power circuit such as your interior lights so when they come on if someone opens your car door this would sound the alarm.
Q2Will these car alarms connect to my car's central locking?
Yes, most of the alarms have what is called central locking outputs. This means arming the alarm with the key fob will also remotely activate your central locking to lock and unlock it. Check individual alarms for specification.
Q3My car already has remote central locking; can I add a car alarm to this?
Yes. The AN700 will upgrade your current central locking so you can arm and disarm your car alarm using the key fob you currently lock and unlock your car with so you do not end up with two key fobs.
Q4My car has central locking; can I upgrade this to remote central locking without a car alarm?
Yes, you can. The Microscan SCL3000 is a remote control system to operate your central locking without you needing to fit a car alarm if you already have one or do not require one.
Q5My car does not have central locking; can it be upgraded to central locking?
Yes, you can upgrade your car to central locking. The SCL2200 is for two-door central locking and the SCL4200 is a four-door central locking kit. These will fit most vehicles and operate off the driver's door.
Q6Are the alarms upgradeable at a later date?
Yes, all but the basic alarms are fully upgradeable. You can add ultrasonic or microwave sensors, total closure interfaces, voice modules, alarm pagers and additional remote key fobs for example.
Q7Are your remote key fobs safe and secure to use?
Yes. They use Random Code Technology, which always changes the code they work on, making them both anti grab and anti scan.
Q8Can you supply spare key fobs?
Yes, we can if they are for Microscan Alarms. The AN0055 is compatible with any Microscan alarm and is self-programmable off the alarm you have. Full details come with the key fob.
Q9Can you supply talking car alarms?
The Microscan AN300 series are talking car alarms which will announce, "Protected By Security Systems, Please Stand Back" if someone tries to interfere with your car and still offers a full alarm siren if they should succeed in any way. You cannot change this warning or record you own.
Q10Are your car alarms Thatcham approved?
Some of the more top-end alarms will meet Thatcham Cat.1 regulations, but they have not gone through the process of getting official certification, which would make the alarms more expensive to purchase. In order for an alarm to be Thatcham qualified for insurance purposes not only does the alarm have to be certified but a qualified and registered installer must also set it up. The alarms we supply are designed for self installation or installation by your local garage or auto electrician and therefore would not qualify anyway if installed in this way. They are Department of Trade & Industry Approved (DTI Approved).
Q11Are your immobilisers Thatcham approved?
Yes, we do sell a Microscan MI600 Immobiliser which is Thatcham approved. This will give you professional immobilisation but would require fitting by a qualified and registered installer if you want a discount of your car insurance.
