FAQ’s
Q1I have been done for drink driving, what penalty can I expect?
We are not in a position to give specific legal advice, but we do know the minimum penalty for being found guilty driving under the influence (DUI) is one year's driving ban, and repeat offenders can get a prison sentence if your continued behaviour is considered a danger to the public.
Q2Can I speed up the rate at which my body processes alcohol?
No you cannot. Everybody's ability to deal with alcohol will be slightly different and your body will be better at coping with the effects if you are a regular or heavy drinker, but your body will generally process one unit of alcohol per hour.
Q3Can I buy more breathalyser straws?
The straws used by some alcohol breathalysers to deliver the breath sample to the sensor are just standard drinking straws. The supplied straws are designed to be rinsed and reused, but if you require more then straws from your local supermarket or closest burger chain will be fine.
Q4Can breathalysers be used in the workplace by human resources?
They can certainly be used as an independent guide to assess whether someone has been drinking and/or has excessive alcohol in their system to remain competent in their job. Employees have a legal right to work in a safe and healthy environment, and if a member of staff is under the influence of alcohol, they could be putting the safety of other staff at risk.
Q5Can these breathalysers be used in a court of law?
The readings given would not be accepted by a court as accurate, but then they do not accept police breathalyser readings either. You are only arrested on suspicion of drink driving when you fail a police test and then you are taken to a station for a blood test, which is considered the litmus test to confirm your guilt or innocence.
Q6Do alcohol breathalysers need to be calibrated?
All breathalysers we sell come pre-calibrated and are designed to last for a couple of years and remain accurate so saving you the costs and hassle of a six-month annual recalibration. Some of the systems come with a cleaning cap to help you periodically clean and sterilise the sensor.
Q7Are these breathalysers as accurate as the units the police use?
They are not quite as accurate, but the police units are ten times the price of the systems we sell here, and the police still take a blood or urine samples back at the station to confirm the readings of their units.
