Immobilisers

Sometimes referred to as 'electrical immobilisers', these will disable the engine from starting when activated by illegal entry into your car and are generally designed to cut out the power supply to the engine starter motor. Immobilisers are highly effective against having your car stolen. They require a little bit of competence to fit but are a hassle free solution once...

Pedal locks provide a physical and visual deterrent which prevents anyone who has gained access to your vehicle without your permission from operating the acceleration and brake pedals. Because of their location in the footwell, it's exceptionally difficult for anyone to saw through the lock or get any leverage to try and force it off.

There are a few styles of steering locks, but they all work along the same principle. Immobilisers

A car immobiliser is the kind of protection you should consider if you are more worried about your whole car being stolen, rather than the contents or wheels. This concern is applicable from the cheapest of run-arounds to executive BMWs and Mercedes.

Some car alarms also include engine immobilisers. An electrical engine immobiliser is the most technical form of immobiliser and, while it does not offer a visual deterrent, it is still the most effective.

Wheel & Pedal Locks

Visual deterrents include pedal locks or steering wheel locks which are simple to fit, but hard to remove. This is a quick and easy solution which can also act as an additional line of defence, reinforcing a car alarm or other form of immobiliser.

If your vehicle does not have any of the precautions mentioned above, then another form of immobilisation, such as a wheel clamp may be required. These are ideal for caravans, trailers, horse boxes and any other vehicle that you don't use on a daily basis.
