Description
If your vehicle has a UV ( athermic ) front windscreen then this antenna may be needed to receive GPS signals (satellite lock) quickly and maintain a good signal. These windscreens are mostly found on French manufactured cars and are generally easy to see as the windscreen will have an oilly purple tint to the glass. The antenna must be placed in a position where it has a clear view of the sky above. Do not confuse this with heated windscreens of those with little metal elements in the glass such as found on Fords and Jaguars which are not generally a problem.
Fitting the GPS antenna
Most cars with UV screens have a clear or black speckled section of their windscreen that does not have any UV protection (usually behind the rear view mirror). The antenna can be fixed here with double sided foam backed tape. Make sure that it is orientated correctly, the black top should be against the glass with the writing visible on the base. Tuck the cable along rubber seal at the top of the windscreen and then down the side of the A pillar for neat installation keeping the cable away from airbags and vehicle controls. The antenna also has a magnetic base to enable it to be fitted externally to the vehicle should you wish.
